The idea of Hoppi.me is simple: holding iPhone in hands, you jump and roll in the real world to move through the virtual world of the game. This way a real physical activity can be added to a mobile game and, as a result, we get new entertainment product with elements of fitness.
To make this possible, we need to support so-called local navigation using motion sensors of iPhone. And this is tricky. My research showed that, at least with iPhones 4 and 5, a motion couldn’t be detected reliably enough and in all aspects needed for such a game. The project had been put on hold. Since that time two generation of motion detection hardware changed on iPhone, so it’s probably a good time to return to the idea and to try again.
